Sustainability is a big, complex problem with no simple solution. There is a mountain of information out there, and much of it contradicts the rest of it.
But there are tools to help us navigate the issues and increase our understanding, making it much easier to work with and journey through.
We focus on cutting the overwhelm, by simplifying sustainability so that it's easier to understand where you stand, and so anyone (and everyone!) is able to see what's important and work with it at a personal, organisational and societal level.
Understanding is not enough by itself, we also need to feel capable of tackling one of the biggest issues of our time.
Empowerment, encouragement and engagement are key for all stakeholders, at all levels.
Making an organisation - or a society - sustainable is not going to be easy and it's not going to happen overnight. We are going to fall and have to pick ourselves up and try again. We are going to make mistakes and admit that we got it wrong. And we are going to have to take all our stakeholders with us while we're doing this.
Once we understand the issues and we feel empowered & engaged we can begin: now we have to take action and hold ourselves accountable to make change actually happen.
What we do, how we do it and how we talk about our journey matters.
Luckily there are helpful tools and resources for navigating this stage too, as well as communication techniques to help you talk to your communities and stakeholders about what you're doing, while you're cycling through these stages on your journey.
